Large-scale flanges are supposed to rust in common environment for the reason that free iron will rust and make stainless steel corrode on any surface, thus clearing up is necessary. Float pink generally can be removed with dust. Some has strong adhesive force, and must be handled according to the embedded iron. In addition to the dust, there are lots of sources of iron on the surface, including the used sand that applying ordinary carbon steel wire brush to clean up and used in carbon steel, low alloy steel or cast iron pieces, glass beads or other abrasive preformed shot blast, or carrying out grinding on stainless steel products near stainless steel flanges and the equipment previously mentioned. If protection measures on stainless steel flanges are not taken in cutting and the process of dropping, iron on wire ropes, sling and work table is easy to embed or pollute the surface.

Rust cleaning methods of flanges: put flanges in hydrochloric acid, the principle of which is to restore rust into iron, but this method has certain risk, because hydrochloric acid is corrosive substance and harmful to human body. The operation must be careful in case staining human body, and finished flanges should be alkali neutralized, don't use hands directly.

Checking after order and production can found out and prevent the existence of free iron, ASTM standards A380 [3] regulates the test methods of examining the surface of stainless steels or particles of rust. When iron cannot exist, this method of inspection should be carried. If the result is satisfied, you are supposed to clean the surface with clean water and nitric acid until dark blue disappears completely. As standard A380 [3] refers, if the rust test solution can't be cleared, the test method is not recommended on the surface of crafts, namely products that human consumers will contact directly. Relatively simple test method is to expose it in water for 12 ~ 24 hours to check rusty spots. Sensitivity of this kind of test is poor and it is time-consuming. These are tests, not cleaning method. If iron is found, chemical and electrochemical methods introduced above should be taken to clean up.
